A Short Introduction

Welcome to my blog! This is my first attempt at blogging since the days of Xanga and Livejournal, so please bear with me as I work on perfecting everything, from my writing to the layout. (And if you ever feel the need to realize how much you’ve grown, go back and check out what you wrote in high school and what you considered the greatest travesties in the world… you’ll feel a lot better about your current situation.)

So first things first: I’m Becca, and I am a young professional located in Seattle. I graduated from Tulane University (Roll Wave!) in December of 2008, with a major in Russian Studies and minors in Business and Classics. I moved here two years ago after leaving graduate school, and am still working on finding my career. Through the circumstances in my life and my past experiences, I have chosen to return to my previous field of higher education. A former residence life professional (“res lifer”), I have been searching for opportunities here in Seattle and in Portland, Oregon for the past two years, and have not had as much luck as I would have hoped. To further my attempts and networking, connecting, and ultimately finding my dream job, I have decided to create this blog for 3 main reasons:

  • To share the knowledge on job searching that those around me have passed along to others on a similar path
  • To create dialogue with others on their job searching, and to create a mini-support group amongst ourselves
  • To share my thoughts and opinions on issues affecting higher education and the field of student affairs

My main goal is to ultimately place myself in a higher education role, and hopefully help others (and gain universal karma points) in the long run.

Please remember that this is a work-in-progress, and I am always open to constructive feedback and productive discussions on my posts.

If you wish to reach out and connect with me in other forums, please feel free to do so…

Here’s to well wishes and success for all who see this!
